The Orwell Youth Prize uses the writing of George Orwell to inspire you to write about your own ideas and experiences. Write about what matters to you. get expert feedback. and you could be the winner.

Who can enter?

This year, the Prize is open to all secondary school students, including Year 7s. The Prize is open to anyone in years 7-13 (or equivalent) who is at school or college in the United Kingdom (or studying from a British Curriculum abroad)

What you need to know:

You’ll need to make sure you have a PDF copy of your entry ready to hand, and make sure your name doesn’t appear anywhere on the document or in the file name. Your entry must be no more than 1000 words if you’re in Year 7-11 and no more than 1500 words if you’re in Year 12-13.

You will also need an email address and phone number for a safeguarding contact. If you will be aged 12 or under on our closing date of 6th May 2024, you will need a parent/guardian to sign their consent for you to enter the Prize – make sure you have someone ready to help with this.

You will also be asked for some information about you, your school and how you found out about the prize.

When is the final deadline?

The final deadline is on the 6th of May 2024.
